Aaron Meyer’s issued a challenge for someone to remix 79 versions of the song Popcorn. So I fired up one of the remix applications that Tristan and Brian wrote a while back that uses our remix API to stitch all 79 versions of Popcorn together into one 12 minute track – songs are beat matched, tempos are stretched and beats are aligned to form a single seamless (well, almost seamless) version of the Hot Buttered classic. I’m interested to hear what some of the other computational remixologists could do with this challenge. Everyone, stop writing your thesis, and make some popcorn!

If you are interested in creating your own remix, check out the Echo Nest API and the Echo Nest Remix SDK. (Thanks Andy, for the tip!).

Okay, so I know it’s a synth classic but I’m glad there were at least a few people who threw in some non-electronic versions. Still, I was hoping for an accordian or death metal version. Or an death metal accordian version. I did like the mariachi and surf versions though. On the whole however, I think this is right up there with waterboarding…

U do realize, dont u? That’s there’s MORE versions of Popcorn on line??? Because it WAS international, other countries even have their *own* lyrics to it. http://www.Popcorn-song.com But wait, there’s MORE! When i could’nt find a ’steel drum’ version of it, i scoured the net, & viola’! Mr. Steel has a ‘disco Steel drum version’ on MySpace. And people , like myself, keep discovering it’s magic, so thusly, Popcorn keeps evolving. I enjoyed the mix though, & im sure others will add their own unique version of ‘Popcorn’. *i LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! Shadmehr’s YouTube music video of Popcorn! Not only does he sing (in FARSIE; persian) but he plays the fiddle!
